Gmail users around the world complained that spam messages flooded their inbox over the weekend, as the Google service apparently suffered from a widespread problem with its email filters. Several Gmail users turned to Twitter and other social media platforms like reddit to convey that they were being bombarded with spam messages.
Google acknowledged the problem to Forbes, saying the spam flaw was actually part of a larger problem that caused Gmail emails to be delayed, both when they were sent and when they were received. The consequence of this was that “some messages were delayed long enough to lead to delivery without completing all spam checks”
Google said the problem has already been resolved.
Another user posted: “It is a strangely comforting thing that I can only search for ‘gmail’ and Twitter immediately provides me with evidence that yes, others are being hit strangely right now.” (IANS)
